    Hi,
We bought a silkies eggs to hatch. We have 2 now that have hatched. Noticed that a couple of their toes are not black but light colored.
    What does that mean?
Fault for sure in showing I'd think..
But does it mean they aren't pure?
or crossed? mixed somewhere? a throwback?
Just wondered, these are from nice birds.
    Thank you,
    Angela

They may grow out of it they may not, my guess is that they are just residual genes showing up. I've personally had light colored skins on the silkies, but not white, yellow, or pink toes. Good luck with the rest of the hatch!

What color silkies? It is pretty common on buff silkies to sometimes hatch with lighter skin and it darkens up over a few weeks to the blue shank color. I don't think it's a concern unless they stay light.

I believe it was marked as a splash silkie, from a blue/black/splash pen. Had another one hatch, can't see the top of its egg but looks like it may have some light toes too.
Hope they grow out of it.
I guess if we weren't planning on showing at some point it wouldn't matter but thats why we specifically bought from better birds.
It maybe that birds with light toes are culled in a breeding program?
Oh, well, we'll see how it goes.
    Thanks all,
    Angela

I have a little blue with one white toe... [IMG] I was wondering about that too. If he doesn't outgrow it, would it be a DQ if we tried to show him?

My Charli has white tipped toes and 1 white feather growing on his foot.

I too have been wondering if he will outgrow it.

    Hi,
I posted in incubating and hatching eggs as well, hoping someone would answer since there are all the silkie gurus on here and there seem to be many of us with the same question.
Maybe we can find purple chicken and see if they know?
If anyone finds out please post.
    Thanks,
    Angela
