Just wondering what members breed for production. Be it meat or eggs, of pure bred "Heritage" birds. I'm not interested in Cornish crosses, production reds, or cuddly easter eggers who wear hats, etc...
There is a great discussion thread here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/845018/breeding-for-production-eggs-and-or-meat
So lets keep this thread clean of a lot of discussion.
Also great threads about breeding/production here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/882036/a-heritage-of-perfection-standard-bred-large-fowl https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/447684/farming-and-homesteading-heritage-poultry https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/1076131/sustainable-meat-standard-bred-dual-purpose-bird-thread
So, I am just looking for those who are raising and breeding poultry with production in mind. I thought it would be nice to have a "list" of us. Could help a lot of people looking for chickens for eggs or meat, or both. It's real hard to find true "Dual Purpose" chickens at a hatchery, but most people buy from the hatchery and have a bad experience. A list of an alternative would be beneficial imo.
So please list:
Breed/s
How long breeding each breed
Average production (egg count/weight) for flock/s
Age at production is reached per flock
Do you sell eggs/meat
Do you sell hatching eggs, chicks, juvenile, or adult birds
Is the SOP considered or not
Anything I have missed that you feel would be helpful, please list that at the end. I can update as needed.
