Who here has brought home more chicks then they originally planned?

I have laughed so hard reading this thread! We said we'd start with 3 last year. Came home with 7. 2 passed away so we were down to 5. Chicken Papa decided we needed more this spring...again just 3. But chicken son wanted more so we came home with 4 in the box. The biggest suprise of all, Chicken Gramma popped her own new baby hen in the brooder yesterday so the chicken math is now 5 one year old hens and 5 babies!

I ordered 3 Welsummers, 3 Ameraucanas, and 3 Olive Eggers from a local breeder. Just 9

I went to pick up my newly hatched babies and I came home with 19!

5 Welsummers
4 Ameracaunas
4 Olive Eggers
4 Brahmas
2 Lavender Orpingtons

I aready have 40 or more!! I quit counting!

We went to get 6, came home with 8, lost 2. The two we lost were my two oldest daughters' chicks, so we went to see if we could replace them. All sold out, so in the panic stricken state I was in I ordered 25 from the hatchery. Since I couldn't get them until a couple weeks ago, I went to Rural King for a few to hold them over until the new chicks came and somehow came home with 16

So now we have six 7 week olds, 16 three week olds, and 26 5-6 day olds. And now I really want to get some different color orpingtons and maybe a few turkeys????

Have you people no self-control? LOL I kid.

I went out searching for 6. I came home with 3. Put that in your pipe and smoke it! Yeah!

I honestly can't imagine having MORE than what I have right now only because they already get so much of my attention. 3 was our goal because we wanted to test out our chicken-raising skills-- so far so good. We may get more next year, we may not. I'm excited to have a larger flock but for now, my 3 are perfect. I really do enjoy them a lot-- hopefully they enjoy laying eggs-- and hopefully they'll like more company in the future.

p.s. Totally not judging others who got more than what they intended-- I have the same problem with margaritas.

Hahaha... You are defiantly in the minority here. 3 is a good number. We had three for a whole week. Then I started to read the breeds information and found two more breeds that I really had to have. We plan on having the kids show 2 if they are show quality. We can't have over 7 without a permit, so our flock will remain small.

Oh my! I love this! Too funny. I am soooo right at home. I've been bugging DH for awhile for chickens. He finally gave in and said yes. He said he would have agreed sooner, but ya know...men. Anyway, The day after my bday we went to TSC and I heard them as soon as we walked in the door. I started to ask...and he said...go pick some out. Limit was 6, so I asked for 12, lol. He said OK, if I can have 2 ducks....well sure. So we came home with 12 asst pullet which I now think are Tetra tints, Prod red, and the 4 black are barred rock. Oh, I forgot to mention that before we went there I had already ordered some from Welp Hatchery...ummm 25... but they won't be here until May, so right now they don't count.

Anyway had my 12 then saw an ad in one of the local advertisers for chicks and called the lady up. Well, she had some Americaunas and speckled sussex which I wanted, so bought 3 of each. So that makes 18 , cause I don't have the ones I ordered yet, remember... Had them 6 at Mom's house for a few minutes, while dropping her off...Had the box on the porch..cat was quick, minus 1 chick. Argh!!

Anyway, so now have 17. The next week the feed store had americaunas and RIR pullets. Well the ones I bought from the lady were straight run, so I HAD to make sure I had some Americauna pullets, and well I didn't have RIR, so so bought 3 amer. and 1 RIR. So...now have 21.

And..... had to go to the feed store on the way home from checking on my Dad in the hospital yesterday... they had chicks...told DH that I just need feed... don't worry I don't need anymore chicks.

Well, we walked in and looked in the chick bin. I said cool. those are Minorcas, don't have any of those. At this time, DH hubby doesn't realize he is my enabler, cause he says... well, don't you want 1 or 2??
