    Hi all,

One of our chickens has been laying for just over a week now. Here is one of the eggs........

And here are the 2 suspects.........

    Pearl
Our white leghorn bantam (We have absolutley no idea how old she is so if anyone can tell from the picture please let us know)

Leghorn's usually lay white eggs. I would say it is the Silkie/Sussex cross.

Agreed! I have Silky cross's and they looks very much like your girl (almost exactly). they lay eggs exactly like that!

Pearl is probably not a leghorn bantam-white legs, dark flecking in her hackles, pretty sure those are red ear lobes. She may have laid that egg, but I too vote for Olivia.

A hen with white earlobes always lays white eggs.
A hen with coloured earlobes always lays coloured eggs [brown or blue/green]

The hen with the coloured earlobes is the one which laid your brown egg.

If indeed her earlobes are white, she is probably a leghorn bantam. It's hard to tell from the photograph, but it looks like her ear lobes are red and the white that is there is only the feather tufts that cover her ears.
