It got to 24 here in California last night. Who shuts the little hatch door on their coop?
The pop door? Ours gets closed every night. We live in the middle of the woods. LOL
It's been dropping to about 0-5 degrees at night here. The barn is draft free.
Here in the Arkansas boonies I close the door every night, more for their protection from predators than anything else. It has been down in the 20's lately and I've run a heat lamp overnight just for their comfort.
Ours get shut every night, too ~ and the heat lamps activate below 35.
i brought my birds in :-D
The birds all get put away in the wire mesh stalls. The radio is on, the "nite light" goes on at dusk and the barn door is closed, evey night.
pop door is latched at night here too. all seasons, every single night.
Yup....same here. All doors are shut down tight every night...summer, winter, fall and spring.
I close the door and count chickens every night at 5. If the weather is too cold like today (28 and misty) then the door stays shut all day and I give them a special treat of carrots or something and sit in the straw and converse with them at least twice during the day. We talked about what they want for Christmas today. They said they would like some greens. Spoiled? No ... they're just loved!
I'm in CA too, and I shut the pophole door every night, but it has a screen on it for ventilation. I shut the glass window for the first time last week.
