who s guineas are still laying? it seems mine have stopped for the winter
I believe they only lay from Spring to Fall.
Mine have been laying for about a week or so.....
They are seasonal layers. They will lay Spring to Fall usually. Somewhere like Louisiana that has a warmer climate they will begin to lay earlier. Depends on where you are. Northern states will be later and shorter season. I'm in TN and mine didn't stop laying until well into October after starting in late March. Hope this helps
Quote:Maybe I can get some Southern ebay guinea eggs soon then! My chickens never stopped laying so I have broodys all of the time. I'd love to increase my guinea flock. They really liven up the place.
I have an auction for a doz guinea eggs...if you aren't ready at the moment...feel free to pm me if you'd like some....
That's great! (Sorry for the hijack cw.)
I have a little OEGB hen that hatched 8 guineas last August. She did a great job and they still follow her and miss her if she is on the nest laying. Since she is experienced I would like to get some eggs in a couple of weeks when I expect that she will go broody.
Here she is:

OMG !!! Those keats are adorable.
I too am not trying to hijack....but, was going to post to ask what a Guinea egg looks like ??? I live in MA where it's been cold. I have 7 Guineas..about 20 wks. They are in with some standard chicks...same age. Some are EEs. Today I got a 2nd egg...one a few days ago. It's lt blue. Weighs in as a "peewee". Quite pointed on one end. I keep checking out the EEs but nobody is red in the face. Cooked the first one...it may have been small but had a double yolk !
How do you know if a Guinea is laying ?? Thanks, and sorry. Don't mean to be rude.
