I was wandering through Feathersite and found some very rare and pretty birds. I was just wondering if anyone on the board had rare breeds, and maybe pictures [IMG]

Lots of us with rare heritage breeds here. Just plug the type of chicken you are thinking of into the search function on this forum. Quite a few pics too. You will find those with rare duck, goose and turkeys also.

I'm raising crele and partridge penedesencas. They are a rare breed first imported from Catalonia (region of Spain) only six years ago. They lay very dark reddish brown eggs and have an interesting "carnation" comb. These birds are flighty like other Mediterranean breeds but seem to settle down if they are housed with calmer breeds and are exposed to humans frequently. I should have some eggs available starting this spring.

I don't have any photos yet but you can check out some at the feathersite

Those eggs do look like chocolate. I have 5 SLW (4 pullet and 1 surprise roo) They were labled (Cackle Hatchery) as rare breed, but I've noticed that a lot of people from BYC has some.

Quote:Most even on a chicken site have not, thus the RARE breed. I went to the chciken show last week, and talked to a girl from Kentucky who had 4 in the show, those were the first I had seen other than mine. That girl had also shown at the Ohio National show and said there was one other person that showed there.
