    Instead of standard?

    Seems like very antiquated term.

    Hey, just a thought [IMG]

Good question! I mean, are they truly "large" or just "standard" or "full sized"??? Which came first, if bantams came first, then I'd understand saying "large fowl" because they'd be larger than bantys. Hmmm....things that make you wonder...[IMG]

I think it is because "standard" can get confused with "standard of perfection" when showing fowl (chickens or any other fowl).

Or routine/mundane/average/normal as compared with exotic/unusual/rare. Saying "large fowl" is more precise, and less likely to be misunderstood.

Standard refers to the Standard of Perfection. Bantam and Large Fowl refer to the size of the bird.

Agreed. Then you can use Giant for any of the very large breeds.

When showing, these birds would still be considered large fowl, not giant.

    Simple reasons:

At shows, it looks better to write "LF" rather than "STD".

I say both largefowl and standard, but that's just when people give me the "what?" face.
