I have heard about recycling calcuim by grinding up your eggshells and feeding them to your girls and I have also heard you have to peel off the membrane. Is this true? If so, why do you have to do it?

I never have... I just bake 'em in the over until the inner membrane browns up a little and then crush them up and feed them.

Quote:X2 There's no way you'd catch me peeling all that stuff off the eggs!! It pretty much bakes off when you dry them out!

It's because of the bacteria , but my girls eat them so fast there is nothing left when i feed the shells back to them so i don't worry about it.

We just hard boil them and then crush and toss them out like that.

I always baked any I was going to hold to feed, for chickens or to balance homemade dog food.
