I had 4 call duck eggs in the incubator , the humidity and temperature is was correct and they were developing and moving around till day 27 and then I candles them on day 26 and they were fine and looking read to crack and they didn't hatch on day 27 so candles them on day 28 and they were dead, I just left them in for a couple of extra day but nothing do I decided to crack them open at this is what I found.. Please can anybody tell me what's happened to them and what I should do next time.
Could you give us the temperature and humidity numbers? Have you seen this thread? https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/491013/goose-incubation-hatching-guide-completed Also, take a look here and here http://www.lwbarnhouse.com/method1.html http://www.lwbarnhouse.com/method2.html I am not a hatcher, but there are many here on the Duck Forum. Let's hope they check in soon.
At 27 days they're already way late for hatching...those embryos sure don't look full-term, their yolks weren't even absorbed. :/ Oh honey, I'm so sorry. Calls can be very hard to hatch, but I'm afraid I wouldn't know what could have happened without more info. For all 4 to die like that, if the temp was too low that could have been a factor in their late development.
Thanks you for your help , the temperature was 37.5 and staying there pretty well and humidity was 40 in day 1-23 and 60 in day 23 onwards I was told this was the correct humidity by a friend but not to sure
Compare what you had to this http://www.lwbarnhouse.com/method1.html - Calls are a challenge to hatch. I would say, don't be discouraged, allow yourself to grieve, and see if you can read up some of the threads on Calls here, you may need to somehow calibrate the incubator - I have read that there are differences between them.
The stats sound good...how often did you turn them, and when did you stop for lockdown? And Amiga makes a great point about grieving - I also lost my first Call hatch, and others here can tell you, I was inconsolable for weeks. I'm so happy for you that you're trying again, maybe you could post in the hatch thread so we can all wait in anticipation right along with you!
