Why is my male duck being protective over my younger male duck witch is a different breed?

One of my muscovy drakes is very fond of my Alpha male muscovy. He likes to preen the alpha male and also rests his head along the alpha male's shoulders when they stand together on my back steps. Who knows why they do this, but its OK by me! Better than fighting.
