Why is this?

Hi all,

I'm not sure why my chicks do this: They are three weeks old and they "love" to try new food. Today I gave them a little piece of banana and they came and tried it. Then, they wiped their little beaks in the wood chips and came back to eat more. Every once in a while they would wipe there beaks and try some more. Do you know why this is so?

They don't like sticky stuff on their beaks.

It's the same as using a napkin for us humans.

Well, I have upgraded to a big pen now. Also, that was not the only box in that pic. there were others but the picture does not show them. Thanks!
