Not sure if this is the right place?

I have read several posts about vent sexing being dangerous and that's why hatcheries don't do it with bantams. I've read of people killing chicks doing it. I don't know a lot about it but it doesn't seem all that dangerous, just wondering what makes it so dangerous?

I don't know if dangerous is the right term, in trained hands I think it is an effective tool, I think what you may be refering to is the fact that the chick when being held for vent sexing has to be slightly squeezed near the back or vent area of the bird. In order to expose the vent opening and thereby sex the bird, In hatchery stock that has been sexed you may have some trouble later with things like prolapsed vents and egg binding because of this practice but I am just speculating on that. I personally vent sex my birds after hatching and never have problems but then again my stock is not from any hatchery's.
