Why should eggs be laid with the round side up during incubation?

Just wondering. Also, what's the importance of turning eggs?

The air sack is in the large end of the egg and the chick develops head toward the large end. Turning helps the chick avoid sticking to the inside of the shell. ETA: Turning is just rocking the egg back and forth, not really turning it all the way over or around.
