I have 1 Easter Egger chick that has strangely mellow behavior. It lets me touch it, doesn't run with the rest of the flock when I show up, doesn't mind being held, and appears generally sleepy alot. I have noticed its poop seems to stick to its butt a little - not like diarrhea more like the poo just doesn't fall. It holds it's wings out alot too. Chick is 1 week old. Drinks water, eats unmedicated chick crumble, and sleeps under a heat lamp.
Is it sick or just friendly? Should I be doing something different with it?

I let it run with the rest of the flock in the garden during the day. Does anyone else have a super friendly chicky?

Your chick may indeed just be super friendly, but your description of its poopy butt concerns me. It's possible the chick acts docile because it's lethargic because it's got pasty butt and its poop is backing up into its intestines.

Can you say for certain this chick is pooping? First, you need to soak its bottom in warm water to soften the poop around the vent. Pat the excess water off and blow dry. Lubricate the vent with coconut oil. Then observe the chick to make sure its eating and pooping normally. If you're in a hurry to see it poop, offer it something to eat. It will soon poop if it's not constipated.

If it doesn't poop, you need to get some mineral oil down it. If you have an eye dropper, you can also squeeze a tiny bit of mineral or warm coconut oil a tiny distance inside the vent to help soften and hardened poop inside.

Sleepy, docile chicks may be sick, and if it's chirping non-stop, it indicates sickness for sure.

Cleaned its bottom and it appears to be pooping normally. Poo wiped right off, I don't think it was backed up. I will keep an eye on it though

I have had super friendly chicks before, and they weren't sick. It is possible that the chick has decided you are mommy.
