What's up with this?
A feather picker maybe? Do you see or suspect mites?
I thought of a feather picker but it wasn't bloody or anything, How can I tell if it is mites?
Boy if you figure it out....I'd love to hear about it! 3 of my 4 look just like this and I posted a question too. One day they just had naked butts. Perfectly healthyappearing, laying, active, happy....with drafty bums!! Never found mites or lice. And now it appears the feathers are growing back.
So, though I'm not much help, maybe you will have the same luck I did and it will become a non problem.
Bare-Butt Syndrome. Hens do it to worry their owners.
I'm convinced you are right!!!!
My chickens look like this too. Also, my warren has very scraggy looking feathers under her wings. How can I tell if its mites? Almost certain they are not pecking each other as I have not witnessed this and no blood or feathers lying around in the coop.
