My call duck hen called these 2 in and I am just wondering what they are?
are thier bodies red? and what color are the heads? we have this big book of ducks as my dh is (gasp!) an avid waterfowl hunter!!
They look like young muscovies to me, they dont have all the caruncles yet but they have the pinkish bill and the muscovy look to them. If not muscovies, then either a muscovy cross or some sort of shell or tree duck.
Err... maybe this......
Black - bellied whistling duck
Thats a Red Billed Whistling Ducks! I found a few ducklings one year and raised them up (trust me it was HARD, they are crazy babies)! and turned out like this! I gave them to the Animal Rescue group here and thats exactly what they told me they were, and these two look like it as well! Very pretty! Lucky you.
I think a black bellied whistling duck also.
has a picture of one on the right hand side of the page. They look alike. I don't know how to add pictures or I would show you the picture.
THEY CAME BACK!! I think it is actually a pair. I almost scared them off as they were using the kiddie pool I have out for my runner ducks. I hurried back to the house, grabbed my camera and the telephoto and this is what I got:
First they were in/at the pool then went to chow down on some scratch I threw out this morning....
I WANT BABIES!!!
ETA: I think they are the black-bellied whistling as suggested
they are sooo cute, well maybe except for the legs lol!!!!
Quick, stick a pool under a roof in a pen so that you can trap them, then if you get caught with them, say they showed up on their own, lol.
