We just hatched babies. Two of them just came today but one of them won't open it's eyes and won't stand. Will it make it? The first one hatched and was very lively. The second one hatched when we were away at work and the 3rd and 4th ones aren't as active. But the last one to hatch is the one I'm more worried about. Can we handle them at all? Is there anything we can do to help? This is our first time incubating so we are new to this.

if you have chick saver mix a little of that with luke warm water and see if the chick will take it.

Keep the chicks beak pointing down and just dribble a tiny amount down the side of the beak or kinda inside the beak so you are not drowning it. you are only trying to get it to take few good drips. Ive heard sugar water will do the same thing. If the chick seems ok taking a few drips then repeat every few hours until the chick starts to seem to be a little more lively.

Xs 2. If you can get it to take a little water with sav a chick (electrolyte) in it if you have it that would be great. I use it in my water the first two days after hatch. If not add a teaspoon of water to a quart and try to get them to take that. Some chicks are affected more by the hatch and may be dehydrated at hatch (one of the reasons I am against chicks going days after incubation w/o food and water) especially if they had to work harder. Some are more exhausted and need more rest time than others. Most you can do is try to get a little fluid in the and let them rest.

Thank you for the welcome! So I have an update on the 'sick' baby. It lays on one side and acts like it can't stand. It's bum looks swollen and it has a fluid filled sack on the neck just above the wing. I held it and was able to get it to drink some water. Just plain water as I don't have the chick saver mix. It is opening it's eyes. Any thoughts?

If u dont have chick saver i think someone commented about adding sugger LOOK UP^

The fluid filled sack on the neck would worry me. Did it change size when the chick drank? It could have a congenital problem.

I got that. Thanks. I just wanted to see if it would even take water and I wanted to make note on it's appearance to see is anyone is familiar.

It didn't change size after taking in water. It's on the side that the chick leans on.

Some chicks get a little messed up during hatch and all you can do is assist a little. As long as it will take sugar water you are giving it a fighting chance, Ive seen a few that I thought had no chance suddenly peep up and turn out fine. Others didn't. Normally its decided with in the first 36hrs either way. The fluid should sort itself out once the chick stands up.
