Go to http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=s111-510 to look at what legislators are trying to do to us now.

Be sure to scroll down to the bottom to see what organizations support or oppose this bill. A friend sent this to me because she knows that I like to grow my own herbs and such. I would hope that I will be able to continue but I'm not sure how far the consequences of this bill go. Read for yourself and I'd like to hear opinions.

  2. As the NRA says, "they will take my homegrown veggies from my cold dead hand"....... or something like that.

  3. I heard about this on the radio this weekend, boy did it make my blood boil. What a bunch of idiots! They are all for big corporations and just want to kill the littleman. Disgusting!!!!!

  4. I read the summary and I don't see where it makes growing your own food illegal. It presents many things to improve the safety of food and awareness about food safety. I think setting standards for safe food production is reasonable. If you are selling food you grow, you may fall under the scope of this bill.

Quote:My suggestion would be to contact some of the organizations on the 'oppose this legislation' list. Just compare; the big guys are for it and the little guys are against it. Hmmmmmmmmm, wonder why. Don't be fooled; do you really want the government involved in more than they are right now?

Does that bill mean it will be illegal for any food to be grown or produced by people like you and me?

And the seed companies will go under if people can not grow their own food?

    Domino effect, I am certain!

Like NAIS, it will be shot down.

Not MORE gov't intervention! When will these nutjobs stop screwing around with the lives of Americans? Heck, when will they remember the Constitution at all?

Bah. I've lost all hope. We haven't had Constitutional government since 1860. That's a century and a half of ignoring the country's core document.

This bill, rest assured, will have major, if unanticipated consequences. Regulation kills the little guy by putting too much of a burden on his limited resources. I'm not anti-big-business by any means, but all this regulation is ridiculous and illegal.

I think they mean selling food. But still they can come here and take it from my dead hands. It will probably be a law no one enforces. Why are they worried about us growing our food and not very worried about our safety from terrorists or rogue nations.

I haven't read it yet. But I did just read about a govt. program that is helping individuals set up to produce food locally. Fresher, less expensive (shipping costs), and better foods. Low/no interest loans if you produce any kind of food that is sold ONLY locally. I've been trying to get in touch with my county extension agent to find out what I need to do to raise meat birds.
