Will it hurt chicks when they eat the pine shavings bedding?

Our chicks are 2 or 3 days old. We had cardboard on the bottom of the brooder and it was really yucky so we changed there bedding to pine shavings and now they are scratching in it and eating the little pieces.

give them some chick grit to help break it down if nec. If they are not eating their reg food. take the pine shavings out and put in puppy pee pads. They are soft so there are no foot problems. Later you can re-add the pine shaving when they are a little older. Jean
