My girls just turned one year in mid-September. My Welsummer, Maddie, is beginning to molt. In the event she looses A LOT of feathers, will I need to apply sunscreen? We live in South Florida and the sun is still really strong. They free-range our backyard and have access to their coop 24/7. She is definitely not herself right now, and even her favorite human, my husband, doesn't seem able to comfort her. [IMG]

She will be fine as long as she has some shade available to get out of the sun. We are in central Florida and a lot of our girls are looking more like porcupines than chickens right now. They are fine.

I really hope she doesn't loose too many feathers. She is such a pretty girl with all of her shades of brown and gold. She's a bit of a brat but her new found attitude leaves a lot to be desired!
