the eggs were set fat side down in a carton for a week?

I gave a dozen eggs to a friend who's incubating for the first time. I feel so bad as my instructions were very likely not clear enough.

We candled them, but most look unviable.

3 or 4 looked like they had veins.

Do they have a chance?? Is it crucial that they be set pointy end down? (That's how they are now).

Hoping for the best.

They do have a good chance. Remember - mother hens dont keep them in cartons. They get rolled & kicked all around. The big end up just helps give them the greatest chance for success.

I have a couple of eggs in my incubator now that were destined to be eating eggs and were sitting in a basket on my kitchen counter for about 2 weeks. I put them in the bator to fill it up and they are on day 15 now and look just fine.
