I have 5, 1-week old chicks and today we are getting 7, 1-day old chicks. I have to use the same brooder. Can i clean a coffee container (red folgers type) and cut holes that are only small enough for the day-olds so they have a spot of refuge if they need it?

    TIA!

That could be a trap. I'd just put some barriers to run around. With week olds that probably won't be necessary. As long as they have enough space the week chicks shouldn't be too interested in bullying. That doesn't normally happen till about 5 weeks.

Ok, good to know. I don't think there will be a problem. I have the week olds out enjoying the sun for bit while the little girls make the brooder their home. I will introduce the week olds in a little bit. The brooder was cleaned and water/food replaced. Hopefully that will lessen any issues [IMG]

    Thanks for the response, ChickenCanoe!

The week-olds seem to be more afraid of the day-olds than anything [IMG] It doesn't appear there will be any issues.
