We bought 2 peachicks this weekend - an India blue male and a black shoulder female. Just discovered they have wing brand ID numbers clipped into both wings. I cannot stand things like that - they look uncomfortable and painful and I want to remove them. I do not want to injure the birds in the process. Any tips/suggestions on how to safely remove these metal clips??
    Thanks!

I was told you don't remove them because of how they latch, and the risk of injury to the bird.

I just brought some peachicks, and they have wing brands. The reason why the breeder put them on the peas, is if ever the peas runs away, and you are not able to catch them, and you think that they are lost for good. Then you gets a call from the breeder that you got the peas from, saying that your peas have been found and caught 2 miles away by someone. The person found the wing band on the peas while catching the peas, and called the number on the band. The breeder told me this story. [IMG]

Wing Bands are # so you can keep good records on who is who, like what pen, who the parents are, if their split to something if the breeder is good he or she will write this down and if ever need be you can call the breeder and ask these questions.

The wingbands will not hurt them and when the feathers grow in you will never see them, but if you really want to take them out cut the round end facing out then just pull them out.

All of our Peafowl have wingbands.

Most good breeders of peafowl that keep good records wing band. Way the bands are put in ,no harm comes to the peachick. Its put in the webbing of the wing.

Its really more for good breeding records ,not in case the bird gets lost. Some breeders have their name on them ,but not all.

Myself i would not remove them, may help you some day.
