Hi, can anyone help sex my day old "rhode Island x mixed race rooster" chick. I have looked at various on-line pics, with the different length feathers but I am still none the wiser! Whatever it is, it will be loved but it would be nice to know. Still waiting for the other 6 to hatch, soooo exiting, again!

The different length plumes say female while all plumes being the same length mean male.

I would bet the dad is an EE(green eggs

) or maybe Silkie like rodriguezpoultry said, but I didn't see any feather feet. but it's something with muffs!

Cute chick! You can only feather sex if you breed a fast feathering roo to a slow feathering hen or vice versa. It does not work on common backyard flocks unless you know what your stock is in terms of how they feathered as youngins. You'll have 50/50 odds guessing just like pointing your finger at them and saying girl.

Thanks for all the replies, my bet today is on it being a girl.
For those that asked the rooster may have silkie in him somewhere but also a lot of something else! I got him as an adult from a farm,so I am not sure what he is.
