Greeting, bop bop, and :welcome. Happy you joined us! Chickens are tough and actually do better in cold winters than hot summers. A draft free (but ventilated) coop and they will be okay in all but the most frigid conditions. They are actually little heat generating engines! Here is a link to the Learning Center https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center
Open the Housing and Feeding Chickens tab and there is info on cold weather chicken keeping. Best wishes and thanks for joining BYC! :)

Hello, and welcome to Backyard chickens! It just so happens I recently started a winter chicken keeping thread, and it has tons of tips and tricks and ideas, so check it out! https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...elements-with-your-chickens/140#post_17631685. Also, if you join your state thread, you can ask people what they have done with their chickens, and you will know that you are in a similar climate as them. You can find your state thread here:https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/270925/find-your-states-thread As redsox said though, you should be more concerned about the summer! I hope you enjoy it here as much as I have!

Welcome to BYC! It's great to have you.

A sturdy, clean, and well ventilated coop is the best measure you can take for winter. Chickens are very hardy in winters. They're naturally wearing thick down jackets at all times!
