Do you need a specific type of light to keep chickens laying through the winter months? Like something in the daylight spectrum?

Some hens will lay eggs through the winter without any supplemental lighting at all. The decision to use additional lighting is all a matter of personal choice- some folks prefer to keep a steady laying schedule, some folks opt to let the hens dictate how much they will lay. The spectrum of the bulbs is inconsequential. They will increase laying with the increase in light regardless of the spectrum. A standard bulb is fine.
