With a little modification, how do you guys think this will work for a coop

the problem with this is that its not a coop, in the sense that you need a nesting box, it will never hold up in rain, unless you put a tarp over it and even then its still not good. I have seen these, there pretty flimsy. 3 birds need more space, and this will never protect them for long. ( wind and such, rain etc.
If you look on craigs list you can find people to make small coops for back yards, especially in california. good luck

I realize this now. However, I feel with the addition of nest boxes as well as expanding the overall length as well as reinforcing the sides. In essence I'm going to build a coop around this one. I bought because it was only $120. With some mods I hope it will become acceptable. I will post pictures afterwards.

I think it will be just fine, I have 4 standered hens in a coop about that size and they do just fine. DH built a run around it so they come and go as they please. Even in the middle of winter ( and it gets darn cold here in CO) they come out into the run. I never lock them in. They only use the coop to get out of the rain or to sleep. I think with the expantions you plan on doing they will be happy. I look forward to seeing the finished product.

Some good answers here. As long as they are free range, then this is ok to shut them up in at night. Maybe build a nest box on the side for the hens to lay? Maybe build a run on it so they can stretch their legs if they are up before you in the mornings.

My three chickens have two coops to choose from, and yet they all sit on top of each other, rooster and two hens, in the one tiny nest box in the corner. None of the roost.
