I've done it twice. I'm buying one more in two days. Their ages are 5,4, and 2 weeks. I tried separating them today, but I couldn't. They depend on each other and the younger one was in major distress. I guess the older ones stay in for a while and move them into the coop all together. I have very good birds.

I've done it both ways. Sometimes they get along, sometimes the little ones get picked on. I'd give it a try while keeping a watch on them, and just go by whether or not they get along.

I just added in 2 1day old chicks into my brooder with 2 2wk olds and 2 1wk olds, and they did fine - the youngest ones actually peck at the older ones! I worked it by putting my older ones outside when we got home, and sitting out there holding the new babies while the older ones pecked around, letting them see each other safely. Then I put the new babies in the brooder (b/c they were getting a little chilly even with me holding them), gave them a few minutes to adjust to their new space, and then put the older ones in - and it was like they were together all along!

Last spring I was in the same boat. What I was told is that you're good for up to a 3 week difference. I had week-olds and month-olds together with no problems.

I would definitely try them together -- should be much easier now than later, maybe even without problem -- just give them plenty of space.
