Woodchips

I have 61 chickens.

My problem is that they go through woodchips in a few days, and it's expensive to buy woodchips every few days. Is there anything that works better for a longer period of time?

Where and how big an area are you covering with wood chips?
Are they exposed to the weather?

At this time of year,if you live near a city, they may be chipping up Christmas trees and giving the chips away. They do that here, but alas, I am always somewhere else when they do it. I'd like to find those chunks like they put on trails. Those look as though they would last longer.

Dont change them all the time just add to them and use the deep litter method.
