For some reason the Wooly Bears decided to pick today to run around here. In the interests of winter weather forecasting I collected some. From the brown vs black ratio, it looks like most of them agree it will be a mild winter, some of the woolies even forgot a black stripe. Hope they are right.

That's a lot of wooly bears! The one wooly bear that I've seen this year had a really large brown stripe too. I'm hoping for a mild winter!

    I've only seen black ones.....
Dozens and dozens of solid black ones..
Does that mean what I think it means?

That Virginia should be prepared for the Zombie Apocalypse? Maybe I have been watching too much TV.
Wonder if you have some other species of moth running around, we have been seeing the normal Isabella Tiger Moth caterpillars mostly.http://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/species/Pyrrharctia-isabella

I'm in Va too, and have seen mostly black ones

I've seen a few that looked like the last picture, with the colors reversed. Dang.

Found some more yesterday, still finding ones with a lot of brown here. So looks like the east is going to have a lot colder winter than the Ohio is...
