I have three laying hens (less than a year), displaying no symptoms of illness. I am currently quarantining two new birds to add to the flock (two weeks in) that also appear healthy so far. My question is- is worming done routinely or prophylactically? I've never wormed the other birds, but this my first flock and it came up while preparing to add new birds. Thanks for any input!

It may not be a bad idea to worm new birds.
That said, I've only wormed one bird in my life and never prophylactically.
It largely depends on where you live. If it stays warm and wet for any length of time where you live, it may be a good idea to do it on a schedule, changing anthelmintics from time to time.

Any brand or type of wormer you can recommend?

Valbazen liquid cattle/sheep wormer or Safeguard liquid goat wormer.
Valbazen dosage is 1/2cc orally undiluted for standard size birds, repeat again 10 days later.
Safeguard liquid goat wormer dosage is 1/2cc for standard size birds 5 days straight. No need to redose 10 days later.
It's best to worm birds first thing in the morning prior to feeding.
