I'm a little worried about Henny Penny, my BR. Her egg production has noticeably dropped- it used to be every day a couple months ago and now it's only 3-4 times a week. She also used to love running around but now she'll often just lie down when I take her out to free range. She also hasn't molted since she got her adult feathers, and she doesn't preen very often so her feathers are matted and breaking. Lots of her feathers have broken off so she just has the shaft sticking out of her which she sometimes plucks out. Her entire belly as well as most of her chest have no feathers. I don't know if this is normal because she's 2 years old now but I had heard that most BRs are active and have good egg production for multiple years. She also can't fly as high. A couple months ago she could fly up to my arm around 3-4 feet high but now she's hesitant to fly 2 feet. The farm I got her from is kinda weird though; our other 2 girls from there didn't have the greatest genetics and both died from Merricks despite the farm claiming they had been vaccinated. Henny Penny's also not that heavy; she hasn't lost weight but she's only 2.2 kilos (4.85 pounds.) Is it just the farm, or is she sick, or am I doing something wrong? Thanks for any help in advance! :)

It could just be that she is beginning her molt. Obviously follow other suggestions to determine she is healthy. My barred rock hen molted hard and fast once she started, and she was very miserable while it was happening. She was lethargic, didn't eat much (she is usually a food consuming monster) and spent a lot of time sleeping Once she got her feathers back she was fine, and has just started laying again.

Is her abdomen bloated? Check her crop early in the morning before she eats or drink anything and see if its empty or full.
Her abdomen isn't bloated, and her crop is empty in the morning. She's also been eating less though
Have you checked for parasites? This time of year, their feathers often do get kind of ratty looking, before they molt.

A picture would help.
There don't seem to be parasites on her or any of my girls

I really hope she is beginning to molt- she really needs to

Thanks for all the help guys! :)
