I saw in some garden frames in the coop section that prevent the birds from completely destroying the plants. I was thinking of mixing some grass seed with some other seeds. Would these things be okay?

Millet
Wheat
Barley
Rye
Oat
fennel
carrots
radish
turnip
parsley
mint
cilantro

I found some seeds for sale and thought they would be great to mix in for some variety.

I have fed all that except rye, barley grass, fennel, turnip, and cilantro with no ill effects as my chickens were let into my garden.

I would stay away from the rye.

Barley- it is fine unless you give too much barley grain in the feed. I feed barley grain in small quantities. I know you are referring to the grass itself. I have grown oats and wheat (and millet) and let the chickens in after maturity...no problems.

I think you should grow all that and let it mature...then give it to your chickens!!

I have millet plants right now in the run...they don't really like to eat them and much prefer CLOVER (the number one favorite green treat for my chickens ever!)

I would go ahead and plant whatever you desire for them! They will be sure to enjoy some variety - just stay away from the nightshade family and your plan sounds great IMO!

I couldn't resist giving you a link to these salvaged containers though...I think they are picturesque and I have just last year gotten into growing lettuce on our deck.

Those are adorable little herb boxes. I have a few 55 gallon barrels I was thinking of cutting in thirds and using them as mini raised garden beds.
