Wound of some sort on chick

    What is this on 2-day-old chick? Others are pecking it, and making it bleed. Sort of like a skin tag - a little lump. Had to move this chick to its own brooder. Tried warm compresses. What should I do?[​IMG]

    If it is right at the base of the tail, it could be the oil gland, though don't think it should be brown like that. The oil gland secretes a substance that chickens will preen themselves with to distribute a protective coating throughout its feathers.

    When i had chick i worried too. Its the equivilant to what babies have. Am embilicol cord. I even tried wiping mones off as i thought it was pasty butt. I profusly apoiligised to my little chickiepoo
