Can I give you a bit of advise before you learn the hard way?

Blue/black/splash orp eggs tend to be on the fragile side. Shipping them often results in poor hatches. The weather right now has been super hot. They don't do very well in this kind of heat either. Most people selling eggs are slowing down now due to the heat of summer.

You may get a fair hatch but right now and through August just isn't the best of time to try those as shipped eggs.

I mean, it is up to you if you want to take the risk but most reputable bbs orp owners with eggs don't really like selling them and shipping them in this kind of weather. A poor hatch result and many people feel the seller is obligated to send more eggs. And that is just not fair to the seller and leaves the buyer feeling as if they didn't get what they paid for.

Just friendly advise from a person who is raising the orps and has worked very hard to get eggs to hatch since spring of 2007. In the past year - all the shipped eggs I have recieved only the eggs from this spring have made it to a live hatch.

Good luck with what you decide to do.

I bought mine from jimmy47 and had 9 out of 15 hatch, which is really good for shipped Blue Orp. eggs. As MissPrissy has stated though, the weather has been very hot and would be rough on your eggs should you buy any and have them shipped to you. As hard as it would be, I would wait until fall when the weather has cooled down and you know that your eggs will be okay. I have wanted Welsummer eggs so bad, but have come to the conclusion that I am just going to have to wait until fall to get them. [IMG]

I agree about the heat and shipping eggs. I also stopped selling my blue orp eggs. My birds are still laying up a storm too.

I did swap a few on the swap chain but it is getting to hot to even think about doing that soon. It is not as hot in my neck of the woods as it is back east.

I am now only selling to the lucky local people. [IMG]
