OK, wise Wyandotte owners and chicken fans. Do you think these 2 birds are male or female? Both these birds are feisty, but I purchased them at about a week old so I'm thinking that's why they don't like to be held. Thanks!!

Close to 7 wk old Silver Laced. The wattles are more red than the comb which is a faint pink. Don't see any sickle feathers. The sun took some color out of the comb. The first photo has the best color comb.

Close to 7 wk old Gold Laced. The wattles are somewhat smaller and less color than the SLW. The comb is mostly orangey/brown, but the spike is yellow. Don't see any sickle feathers either.

fthese were my chickens at 7 weeks. i only have 2 silver laced wyandottes, but maybe from my pics you can get a better idea.

left bottom is my male (Curt).

the one in the middle on the far right is my female (Midge). the big one smack in the middle is the male.

top left female, middle top male.

I would say the SLWs are males, and the GLWs are females, but I am also new at this. good luck! I hope I am wrong about the roos... my roo Curt is a snuggler though. I love him [IMG]

In my very limited experience I think that they are both girls. I have 2 wyandottes who will be 15 weeks old tomorrow and are girls: one each of golden laced and silver laced. I found that both of them (but the gold especially) got red wattles very quickly as chicks. They didn't grow though. The combs remained pink and also didn't swell.

Here's a picture of my GLW at 3 weeks, then 6 weeks then again around 7.5 weeks:

Here's my SLW at week 8 (I'll spare you the time lapse photography here):

Make sure to come back when you know for sure and update the thread so we can learn. Thanks!

Oh, this is torture. [IMG] All your responses have been going through my head all week. I like SuperChemicalGirls analysis the best, of course.[IMG]

I would say both are pullets.
For comparison here is my GLW Roo at 7 weeks.
