Do they continue yawning excessively when they are at a distance away from it?

If they are sitting directly in front of it when they do this?

Another possibility is that they are yawning because of the sound or the vibration of the air caused by the air cooler is making their ears feel strange.

Sighing (like yawning) is an important components of lung function. It reinflates tiny aveoli in the lungs that may have relaxed too much and deflated during times of shallow respiration such as when we are tired or sleepy or having been sitting very quietly for too long.

Humans sigh on average between 12 and 20 times per hour.

Hospital patients who are on a ventilator are actually given artificial sighs by the machine a set number of times per hour to offset this natural need.

It helps balance oxygen and carbon dioxide levels and can help prevent acidosis in the blood.
