I'm Emma from Vic, Australia and I am currently doing Unit 3 & 4 Agriculture.

Last year for my enterprise I brought a steer and raised it for The Melbourne Show, my steer got a good score and I came 6th in my handlers comp.
This year I have chosen to do a more safer enterprise by running chickens.
I've chosen Isa Browns and am thinking of about 12 + hens. I have a coup at home (used to have chickens years ago (thinking of about 5 hens)) and a very large coup at school (maybe up to 12)
I have found a lot of info on here for my planning and decided to join for more help and to ask questions.

    :)

    Hi Emma,

Welcome to the BYC forum. This is a great place to get answers to all your questions related to chickens. Best of luck with your chickens. Will you keep some at home and some at school? Oh, and congratulations on your success in the handling competition.

Sometimes, we here in the 'States' do have different products, or our products have different names, but caring for chickens is pretty much the same - as far as what the needs of the chickens are.

That is fabulous. You are an entrepreur!

You will figure the site out - you will love it when you do. I suppose too, that different people use it in different ways. The search box at the top left - can be helpful when you have a question, you just type in the key-words. Then in the upper right there is a brown button 'My Profile' -- if you click that, you can see a listing of all the threads that you have recently put some info in.

Here's a link to a thread of people from Aust. -- there are 325 pages, I think!
