Hello fellow chickeners. Does anyone know where the yellow buff breed originated? I was around chickens as a youngster but haven't heard of this breed until taking a shot at raising some chicks this summer. I have heard they are very close to the white rocks but not totally. I have both and the buffs are more meaty, and a bit stockier than the whites (cornish cross maybe)? I apologize for my lack of knowledge here, just curious. They are very pleasing to look at, but egg/ laying performance to this point is a bit lack-luster. My RIRs are running rings around them.

    Thanks,

What are they? I've heard the term, but I dont think it's a separate breed. Is it like them calling sexlinks Cinnamon Queens or Shaver Reds? Sounds like a trade name of sorts.

Thanks, Cindy. I purchased them from Mccurray, Orpingtons possibly? Maybe I can find the papers on them with furher detail. I can only remember yellow buffs....

I see buff rocks listed on the papers. Guess they are plymouth rocks, just curious about the butterscotch color and the heavier build. Maybe a cousin of the white rock but I'd bet a cornish cross of some sort.

Maybe you got Buff Orpingtons. I bet that's what they are. I have heard the term "Yellow Buff" before, but I can't find that on Feathersite and they have absolutely everything. If you got them from McMurray, I bet they're Buff Orps. Great breed! I have two and I adore those girls.
