Help!
Lethargic Rooster, 6 months old, has yellow diarrhea & doesn’t walk around, just stands in corner. Doesn’t eat or drink. I put corid in the coop water today & squirted water (without washing the syringe) into his mouth & brought him inside. What else can I do for him? Poly vi sol? Vitamin E? I don’t know what to do I’ve had chickens a year & never had this problem!
He’s my daughters favorite & will be really sad if he dies. Help!

Greetings Cesily2323,

Can you upload a photo of his poop?

A photo of the cockerel would also be helpful.

Examine him for any additional symptoms:
  • Feel the crop in the morning, is it hard or squishy with a bad smell?

  • What do the poops look like? Watery or mucousy? What color? Yellow feces, or is the urate yellow?

  • Look under the feet, make sure there are no sores or cuts.
  • Look at the legs, are they smooth? Are the scales lifting?
  • Feel under the belly, check for blisters or swelling.

  • Look for mites and lice under the feathers, neck, under wings, vent area.

  • Look under the wings, check for lumps or sores.

  • Check the chicken's vent, is it clean and pink? Dried discharge, feces, or growth?

  • Listen to the breathing, do you hear any rattle noise?

  • Look at the nostrils, any discharge or bubbles coming out?

  • Look at the eyes, are they bright, clear and round?

  • Look at the comb and wattles, are there any scabs or growths? How is the color?
Diarrhea can be caused by different things. Infection is at the top of the list, especially if the chicken is not eating or drinking, and is lethargic.

It would be good if you could take the cockerel to see a vet, as they will have any needed medications. If not, determining what is wrong is just part of the process.

The members here at BYC, will be better informed to help you, once you provide more information.

God Bless :)
