Hey all. I'm new to chickens. I have 4 hens. All Plymouth rocks. One partridge, three barred. The largest barred has a yellow film over one eye and it looks a little swollen. She doesn't have any other symptoms. Is eating well, alert and active. Do I just assume she scratched herself or is this a disease symptom. Apparently she's had it for a couple days now--we were out of town and had a neighbor looking after the birds.
    Thanks!

That looks like puss in her eye, so it could be MG or Coryza, unless there was an injury. Does she have any noisy breathing, or nasal discharge? Does she smell bad? Tylan 50 injections, oxytetracycline or Gallimycin in her water may be good to start. I would separate her from the others because it may be contagious and make carriers of the others. Here is a good link to read about the respiratory diseases: http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/ps044
