Hi everyone,
My sweet mottled java died today with no apparent cause. She was 17 months old, not laying yet, but starting to show some signs of getting close. She and my speckled sussex were introduced at the same time, and she was the one that was picked on at introduction. That was a month and a half ago, and her feathers were all starting to grow back and she was gaining weight nicely. We would say she didn't gain weight for the first week or two that we had her, and then after that, she was recovering. She hadn't gotten to the same size as the speckled sussex but the difference was constant after that first 2 weeks or so. We have even been commenting how well she's doing. Absolutely no symptoms today. I checked the coop and her companion for mites, and there aren't any. The only thing I can notice is that she has a pale yellow, granular discharge coming out of her vent. Any thoughts?
