Yikes! One of our four ladies found dead this morning.

    No idea why. I found her laying near the nest boxes, but not in them. Just flopped down. Doesn't appear to be anything too bad with her. Some mess around her bung, eyes shut. Being this is only our 2nd year, and first fatality, I'm kind of in shock. She was only 2.

    she was probably at the bottom of the pecking order. i just losst one of my hens because my others wouldnt let her eat

    If you live in the US, you should send her off for a necropsy, many states do it for free.

    Had she been laying right along? Did she stop? Some hens can become egg bound. Did her stomach look large, or could you feel hard , like an egg? I had a hen die from peritonitis. Apparently an egg had broke inside her. She never gave me any warning. So very sorry for your loss. sue
