Rookie question. After a very long wait (6-7 months), my Black Star hens finally laid their first eggs today. However, instead of using the spiffy nesting boxes, lined with pine shavings, they laid them in the sand out in their run. Is there any way to get them to lay in the boxes, which have outside access?

Put a fake egg or golf balls in the nest boxes.
