I've been at some shows! Thanks FredThere are different kinds of shows. Local, county fairs aren't too fussy, as it it often more about the presenter, who is typically a young person. Those kind of shows are more educational in nature. I would think you could enter him in such a "show", although it is more an exhibition than a competitive show.
A true sanctioned poultry show is different. Those are for true-bred show stock and please take no offense, but your bird, being hatchery? You wouldn't want to show him. I'd suggest you attend a poultry show. You'll be amazed and awed at the gorgeous, true bred birds on display.![]()
You'll come to see the difference very quickly.
So does he look like he would be diqualified? It isn't a matter of whether you can show hatchery stock, it is whether the birds match their breed standard. Get a book called the American Standard of Perfection, or for bantams get the Bantam Standard of Perfection. They show what each breed should look like.
I purchased birds from Ideal Poultry, and only a few didn't have disqualifications. But still, almost every single bird I purchased had a minor defect.
Hope this helped, if not, feel free to ask questions.![]()
I'm not familiar with Barred rocks, but other than his tail, he looks okay.So does he look like he would be diqualified?
Would I get disqualified for the tail?I'm not familiar with Barred rocks, but other than his tail, he looks okay.![]()
