So, I have a RIR hen which went Broody and has been glued to her nest for 19 days as of today. I thought that was pretty unusual in itself, as I was under the impression this breed of bird was unlikely to go Broody.

Anyway, today I went to the coop to check on everyone, and a second RIR was on the nest. She has been sitting there for 3 hours now, on top of one plastic egg, all puffed up, grizzling and being temperamental.

I had noticed that for the last two weeks she would not get off her egg after laying unless I physically picked her up and took her outside, and I thought "Gee, that's unusual" but didn't give any more thought to it.

Today, as I lifted her off the nest (much to her consternation ) I found that just like my other Broody hen she has ripped out all of her feathers on her undercarriage.

Are you kidding me?! I now have TWO RIR hens that are broody?!

Meanwhile, my 2 BO's are walking around like they own the place, very much NOT having babies as they were originally intended for.....

    What the?!
