    hi all

i just purchased 10 varied colour finches(young but ready to breed), i kept all in separate cages in pairs, my intention was to keep there a few days before introducing them to the aviary. To my surprise one minute they're all good , then in late afternoon found 3 had passed away. Does anybody have a reason why this would happen, i am doing something wrong ?

thanks in advance for your help

Odd that they would be passed away was there any pecking parks or anything? If not then they could have passed due to stress or from sorry disease. Do you have other birds in the home? If you do i would move all finches to a private room where a door can be shut.
Did they come from same place? if so placing them in a cage together is fine as long as they are away from others.
There is No real way to tell why a bird died without a necropsy which would need to be done on at least one of them.Unsure how much it is where you are but they are like 50.00 here in MD

If they are dying I would keep them away for at least a month do Not place any nest in the cage with them. Many people believe that canaries and finches need a nest in their cage this is Not true and should only be done when wishing to breed.

When you got them was it from a reputable breeder? Did that breeder or person provide some of what they are eating as well as dietary info.
Have you noticed any of them sitting with their mouths open panting> whats the temperature in the room?
Any of them fluffed up? were they active and tweeting one thing about zebras they will beep all day long LOL

    Hope i can help some

Hithanks for your reply, no nothing , no pekying etc marks, all happened within a couple of days if buying them. I put them in cages first and kept them in doors as weather was cold before i was letting them in the avairy. Unfortunately i never got a chance and such a shame as beautiful colours.
