This guy is three weeks old, from a BCM roo and Buff Orpington hen!
Of all the ones that hatched it’s by far the most friendly and outgoing, and loves to be held.
I have more in the incubator!
I have a first time broody Brahma.
After not leaving the nest all day/night Tuesday, I placed eggs under her Wednesday. I haven’t seen a single “broody poop” that I’ve read so much about, does this mean she hasn’t left the nest once? Is that okay? Or should I encourage her to eat and drink?
Hatched some of our own chicks for the first time! Dad to all is a Blue Copper Marans.
Chick #1: What am I? Slightly feathered feet, hatched from a dark green egg, my mom is all gray with a gray floppy comb. Am I a boy or girl?

Yeah, trying to work out the logistics and it seems so much more of a hassle than candling the incubator eggs. I think I’ll just try to leave her be. Thank you!
I did mark the eggs, and will plan on checking daily to remove any new ones.
Do you take all the eggs at once inside to candle? And she has no problem with that? Or head out to the coop with a flashlight at night? 😂
Just put some eggs under a hen that hasn’t laid or left the next box the last few days.
I haven’t hatched under a broody before. Do I ~have~ to candle the eggs? Or can I just let her do her thing?
Candled the eggs today, of the 12 only one wasn’t developing. My daughter also dropped one. 🙃
So we’ve got 10 eggs in the homemade incubator going strong.
