The Condo Guy's Chicken Coop

Palais de Poulet in Dallas

Well we started online like so many and found a guy on BackYardChickens.com in the coop section that fit what I wanted the coop to look like.  He offered great step by step plans that were easy to follow (even for novices)!  We can't thank him enough!  You can find his plans here.  So here are some pictures of our coop in progress and finished.

start of coop

This is early on and our new table saw to get the job done!

sides no roof

Sides cut and tacked together.  So far so good...surprisingly easy!

Roof on...starting to look like a dog house?  (That's what my cousin thought!)

coop w shingles

Roof shingled and nesting box started.  Looking more like a chicken coop now cuz!

coop view

Pop door installed and almost ready for painting!

coop view 2

Windows made and people door cut.  That was tricky.  Pay careful attention to that part. We did a bi-fold door as we were putting it close to our fence and didn't have lots of room. Windows weren't hard to make, but took a couple of tries to get it fitted right.  They work great though.  We only did one large prop vs. two in our plans.

coop painted

Now the fun part...painting!  Lots of detail but it turned out great! Martha Stewart Barn Red of course!  Picket Fence trim.

coop with weather vane

Had a few friends help us move it into place on the stand we built to give them some shade and make the most use of the space we have. Had to add the chicken weather vane!

coop in yard with run and rain barrel

Finally finished the run.  Hint - paint before you stretch the wire.  Much easier! Wish I were shorter or the run was taller.  Little hard to navigate in and out daily.  Hindsight eh?

Yard w. garden and coop

View of the yard with our garden, pond with goldfish, coop and rain barrel.  We spend lots of time hanging out enjoying the yard as you might imagine!

close up of coop w. ladder

Another view showing the ladder.  The chicks think it's great fun.  They run up and fly off like kids on a slide!

chicks in run

Finally!  After 6 weeks of waiting and one postponement, we got our chicks!  5 Silver Laced Wyandottes.

Hope you enjoy the page and best of luck with your coop and back yard chickens!!

Great coop! Can you please repost the original plans? I receive an error when I try the link. Thanks!
I just finished my coop based on the same design with a few mods. Picking the paint out now! Also, looking for a rooster weathervane and see you had added that feature as well. Do you mind letting me know where you found it? Thanks.
Amazon.com Whitehall brand. Less than $35. Then painted it with copper patina paint.
